A Little Cape Magic

We just returned Saturday from our annual week on Cape Cod. I have done the Pan Mass Challenge the past five years with friends from college to raise money for cancer treatment and research. The full ride goes from Sturbridge to Provincetown, 194 miles in all. I have raised about $20,000 over the years through this incredible event.

we stayed in a condo resort in Brewster rather than rent a house this year. Megan pushed this and was smart to do so. We had a nice two bedroom, two bath condo and three pools, including an indoor pool nearby. With a six month baby, we were on a short leash of two hour windows, so it was great to have pools so close. Bridget really likes the water, taking after her mom. She loved splashing, moving in the pool and we danced around with her. Being social, she loved all the stimuli, watching the other kids. Being a new parent, it was striking to see how babied many kids were in the pool by parents. We also went to a wonderful pond in a local state park. Fresh water ponds with no motorboats can't be beat for swimming. Feeling sand on her feet was a new experience, you could see her wheels turning trying to figure it out... we took her to her first baseball game, home game for the Brewster Whitecaps, the Cape League is the best amateur ball in the country and the scene is so Americana, taking place at an elementary school with kids wandering around, playing on the playground, we had to be especially careful Bridget didn't get konked in the head by a foul ball, no day dreaming... we also went to Nauset Beach, the beginning of the National Seashore, just endless unspoiled beaches, we didn't take Bridget in as the water was cold! but I went in, she was fascinated watching the waves and by their sound... we went out to eat a few times and she used a high chair which was great, meg and I weren't swapping her back and forth eating fast... two of our friends who have twin boys Bridget's age stayed in the same complex so it was great to meet up with them... The Cape is just great, relaxing, laid back, cool weather, and beautiful geography, can't wait to go back.
